LEED v4 to v5: Key Dates
LEED v5 Blog Series #1
On June 1st, 2026, building projects across the U.S. seeking sustainability certification through the USGBC will be required to register under the new LEED v5.
This change will affect architects, owners, contractors, and consultants alike. New timelines, new priorities, and a new rating system are coming into play, and we know teams are asking many questions:
What does this mean for my project?
Do I still have time to pursue LEED v4?
How do I prepare without disrupting my project timeline?
This blog post is the first in a series aimed at answering these questions so your teams will make the transition from v4 to v5 without a hitch. Our goal is to help teams wrap up LEED v4 projects with confidence and transition smoothly into LEED v5.
Here are key dates every project team should have on their radar:
June 1, 2026: Projects will be required to submit under LEED v5.
Until June 1, 2026: New projects may still register under LEED v4/v4.1
June 30, 2032: All LEED v4/v4.1 projects must be submitted.
Teams currently in design or construction need to make informed decisions about which rating system best aligns with their schedule and goals to ensure they’ll meet the deadlines.
HUSARCH’s LEED v5 Blog Series
This blog series will help you make those decisions with clarity. In the following months we will explore:
How to choose between v4 & v5 for your project and practical steps teams can take right now.
Reviewing past transition techniques to prevent schedule and budget impacts
How will changes impact my project including:
Changes to Material & Resources Credits, BPDO, and LEM credits will require more foresight in planning due to new levels of transparency from manufacturers and deeper analysis of products.
Decarbonization Tactics in v5: With an increased focus on decarbonization & climate impact, LEED v5 projects will see a need for early planning, clear responsibility, and coordination across disciplines to achieve decarbonization credits.
Impacts to Building Envelope Commissioning
Energy efficiency planning
What Prerequisites matter most, and how to plan for them early.
Each post will stay grounded in real project experience, written for building professionals who want clarity rather than complexity.
How we’re Preparing
We are ready to support LEED v4 projects until 2032, while being ready to administer LEED v5 projects today. Internally, we’ve already laid the groundwork for LEED v5, including:
Evaluating updated LEED v5 forms and documentation requirements
Updating templates and guidance materials used by project teams
Rebuilding internal workflows and tracking systems to align with new credits
Strengthening transparency through tools that keep architects and contractors informed throughout construction
