MISSION & VISION

HUSARCH is a social impact firm that empowers rising talent to bridge the gap between their communities and the built environment around them.

We see the built environment as holding a responsibility toward both improving communities and global health. Sustainability needs to go beyond compliance and codes in order to provide a tangible benefit to future generations.

We believe that the practice of architecture suffers from gatekeeping and we’re committed to make our profession more inclusive through workforce training. By empowering community residents to learn the skills to perform this work themselves, our impact is transformative.

SUSTAINABILITY ACTION PLAN

Sustainability is what we do. We are not trying to integrate sustainability into our projects as much as we are trying to implement sustainability into the fabric of our built environment.

Blue abstract shape, rounded rectangle, blank background.

“WITH BUILDINGS CONSUMING 40% OF THE TOTAL US ENERGY CONSUMPTION, WE NEED ENERGY EFFICIENCY.”

Over our firm’s lifetime, we directly reduced energy usage in over 150 buildings through energy auditing, sustainability administration, or BECx. Our involvement with large scale systems and portfolios expanded our sustainable reach.

Internally we set aside Earth Day as a day of service to review our Sustainability Action Plan objectives, provide a community clean up, and establish focus projects for the year. We utilize our office as a living lab to study data driven projects that have explored material research, water testing, air quality, and stormwater management.

In order to reduce the industry’s 40% energy usage, we work from the bottom up and the top down. To this end, we are volunteering with decarbonization committees to implement legislation that will require buildings to adapt to the latest standards.

Our comprehensive Sustainability and Action Plan addresses six key areas of impact:

  • SITE SELECTION, LOCATION & TRANSPORTATION

  • WATER CONSERVATION & MANAGEMENT

  • ENERGY EFFICIENCY & INNOVATION MATERIALS &

  • WASTE REDUCTION AIR QUALITY ENHANCEMENT

  • COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT & SUPPORT

  • BUILDING ASSESSMENTS

  • ACCESSIBILITY CODES AND REQUIREMENTS

  • FUNDAMENTAL TECHNOLOGY SKILLS

  • OFFICE CULTURE AND PROFESSIONAL SOFT SKILLS

  • AXP COORDINATED ARCHITECTURAL MENTORSHIP

  • SUSTAINABILITY CERTIFICATIONS

Our innovative workforce development program is where technical expertise meets lived experience, creating spaces that truly reflect and serve the people who use them.

To date, 34% of our employees come from non-architectural backgrounds and we have supported their development within the profession. When we break down traditional barriers to entry in architecture and design, everyone benefits — from individual participants to the communities they'll serve.
