CASE STUDIES
HUSARCH is serving as the Building Envelope Commissioner Providers (BECxP) for 10+ buildings serving the Dept. Homeland Security Customs + Border protection, USDA, and FDA, as managed by the General Services Administration.
Since taking on the role of in-house accessibility assessors and program managers for the CHA in 2023, the HUSARCH team built a comprehensive foundation for managing the CHA’s accessibility portfolio. We developed a system to track and monitor open unit issues across the portfolio. We brought clarity, consistency, and usability to a complex system, so that the CHA could better serve its residents.
HUSARCH is performing LEED Design Administration services for Harper College’s Business and Social Sciences Center anticipating LEED Silver by project completion in 2027.
HUSARCH was the Design LEED Administrator. We oversaw the LEED credit tracking, supported team management for sustainability goals, and prepared documentation to meet the third-party standards of the USGBC. Anticipating LEED Gold 2025.
HUSARCH assessed 1.5 million square feet of US Federal office buildings along the East Coast – including offices for HUD, the GSA, and Social Security – delivering three Building Evaluation Reports (BER).
As project managers on the Chicago Public Schools Biennial Facility Condition Assessments under BVNA, we provided continuous team leads, building exterior assessors, interiors assessors, and accessibility accessors to evaluate current conditions of the entire Chicago Public School building stock, including 700 school buildings and over 70 million square feet.
HUSARCH serves as the lead facility assessors for the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) conducting 450 Property Needs Assessments (PNA) across CHA’s residential portfolio.
As critical facade examiners at the Armour Square Apartments - two buildings with eight stories - HUSARCH visually inspected and sound tested both buildings through 18 swing stage drops, creating two openings per drop.
As Project Lead for a decarbonization analysis, HUSARCH brought our expertise in building envelopes to help develop a comprehensive analysis for Rockwell to reach 100% renewable energy by 2030, 50% reductions in Greenhouse Gas emissions by 2033, and Carbon Neutrality by 2050.
HUSARCH evaluated the accessibility of various polling locations in preparation for the 2022 election across the city of Chicago.
As the Architect of Record for isolated renovations of the Lawndale Community Academy, Charles Hughes Elementary School, Gregory Elementary School, and Marshall High School buildings, HUSARCH’s work consists of providing accessibility solutions for polling spaces, paths of travel, main offices, and toilet rooms.
HUS performed facade assessments and served as consulting architect for two residential buildings that are part of the Chicago Housing Authority portfolio.
HUSARCH was contracted to create a music and arts wing at Emmett Louis Till Elementary School. Spaces included a music room, art room with kiln, and a black box theater space complete with sprung floor and suspended lighting grid.
HUSARCH was contracted by HED to conduct a material analysis of products for a project for the Housing Authority of Cook County. We researched the Enterprise Green Community standards and applied that knowledge to a review of proposed products.
As both LEED Design and Construction Administrators, HUSARCH provided guidance to the team throughout the project on the requirements for LEED certification. We compiled and organized LEED data and documentation. The project achieved LEED v4 Silver certification in 2021.
HUSARCH provided LEED Construction Administration services on the Decatur project. This project included the construction of an annex in addition to improvements on the existing school building and site.
HUSARCH served as the Construction Team LEED Administrator on Poe Classic Elementary School Annex & Renovation. This project included the construction of a new annex along with improvements to the main school building.
HUSARCH provided assessment support services for the Design LEED Administrator under KOO Architects and serves as Construction LEED Administrator for ALL Masonry Construction.
HUSARCH provided LEED Design Administrative services for Dirksen Elementary School. We evaluated the project to ensure design credits were achieved, including quality views, daylighting, access to quality transit, and others. We reviewed submittals from the LEED Construction side and conducted weekly meetings with the team to keep the project on track for LEED Silver Certification in 2021.
HUSARCH conducted LEED Construction Administration for Northwood Middle School in Highland Park. Over the course of this project, we compiled and organized information for various LEED credits and managed the LEED process in order to ensure the project would achieve LEED Silver in 2021.
As Design Team LEED Administrator, HUSARCH managed and compiled the sustainability information and supported the construction process so the project was able to achieve LEED Silver v2009 in 2020.
As construction administrators, HUSARCH supported Globetrotters throughout the construction process on the gut rehab of a 14-story Senior building. The project includes full unit and corridor updates and common area finishes.
HUSARCH supported Holabird & Root in the renovations of CHA Headquarter offices through spec writing and Design LEED administration.
HUSARCH served as prime architect for general building renovation work and, in partnership with Altusworks, conducted facade inspections of the building exterior and roof using swingstages.
HUSARCH served as Design & Construction LEED Administrator for Richard J. Daley College’s award-winning Manufacturing Technology and Engineering Center (MTEC), achieving LEED Gold in 2020. We kept the project’s sustainability vision intact through shifting designs and changing leadership. We coordinated teams, streamlined the LEED submittal process, and secured key credits in soil remediation, walkability, and indoor air quality.
HUSARCH was contracted to convert a Brutalist church into a private residence. The project featured a gut reahab and renovation of public space and was developed through zoning permitting and construction documents.
The former Nathanial Pope Elementary School is being converted to a mixed-use affordable housing development in partnership with the Chicago Housing Authority.
HUSARCH served as project management support on facade restoration of a three story, fifteen unit residence within the Chicago Housing Authority portfolio.
The project included full tuck-pointing, limestone restoration, and frieze redesign. HUSARCH coordinated with the project architect, consultants, and construction team to help maintain the project schedule.
HUSARCH ensured the quality and accuracy of the facade replacement at Fannie Emanuel Apartments in Chicago by conducting bi-weekly field inspections. The original brick facade of Fannie Emanuel was completely demolished and reconstructed with engineered metal studs to meet dimensions of fabricated metal panels.
As Construction LEED Administrator, HUSARCH assumed responsibility for the monthly project reports, project inspections, and LEED submittals, turning the tracking progress around. All the while, we developed strong relationships with the client and helped to rebuild trust between the contractor, owner, and architect.
